Thonet chair with armrests

…La sedia!
La sedia è la sedia: visione globale dell’oggetto.
Generalmente di legno, FAGGIO EVAPORATO, noce dei casi migliori, talvolta di vimini, caso limite, non globale.

Giorgio Gaber, La sedia / Al bar Casablanca

Conceived in 1994 by Hermann Czech for the Gebrüder Thonet Vienna company, this chair, with a solid and resistant appearance, has a current design that seems of other times: it is evidently in stylistic continuity with the Thonet style of the late 19th century.

The chair has a seat in steam-bent beech made from a single piece, supported by an arched structure, which gives stability and strength.

It is also available without armrests.

The technique of bending wood with steam was pioneered by cabinetmaker Michael Thonet in the mid-nineteenth century.
Despite Thonet’s merits, in Italy something similar and less known, but no less important, was happening at the same time: the Antonio Volpe Company, a Friulian company, forerunner of the production of curved wood, interprets its time with originality and uniqueness. In 1889, the Volpe Company participated in the Verona Exposition where it was awarded a first degree honorary diploma for its bent beech furniture.
