Bonacina: Perfumes and Techniques of the Ancient Art of the Basket maker

In Lurago d’Erba, in the province of Como, in 1889 Giovanni BONACINA treasured the art of the ancient craft of basketmaking and founded his company, soon expanding its production with armchairs, lounges and furnishing elements.

Success was not long in coming, with international awards in 1909 in London and Paris and in 1910 in Rome, and important orders such as the supply for the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este in Cernobbio. Over the years, the brand has established important collaborations with leading artists and designers such as: Albini, Aulenti, Forges Davanzati, Gregotti, Mongiardino, Ponti, Sambonet, Travasa.

Since the year of its foundation, the company has remained faithful to natural materials and traditional craftsmanship. Today, as then, each piece is handcrafted by skilled craftsmen who, with care and experience, bend reeds, weave and intertwine marrow threads, giving life to innovative and refined projects by architects and designers all over the world.

The artisans of Bonacina, through movements unchanged over time, re-propose an ancient technique which, by wetting, folding and drying the canes of India, Manau and Manila, releases the aroma of distant countries and evokes their enchanted atmospheres.
